Oma and Opa Barsch (That's Grandma & Grandpa Barsch for those of us who don't Sprechen Deutsch) have a good friend who is Chinese. She graciously offered to translate Sam's original Chinese name for us. She asked to see it written, however, because the transliterated name "Wei-Lun Chung" could refer to any number of different sets of Chinese letters. We sent her a copy of a document containing his Chinese name, and she indicates that she wouldn't translate it as "Wei-Lun Chung," as it was described to us, but rather as "Wei-Lun Zhong."
She writes: Sam's name (in Chinese) Wei-lun Zhong means "Greatest amongst his peers"; wei -- great, lun -- peers, Zhong is the family name.
Thanks to Mom & Dad Barsch for following up on this, and thanks to Lan Wang of Jackson, TN for the translation.
